About Save the Baby
I love Andy Ewen's lyrics. I think he's a brilliant musician and visual artist, but for me, his lyrics top it all. I don't always understand everything since he takes great care to mask his intent with very personal imagery, but I think I get this one. And I ain't telling.... That's part of the fun with Andy's writing in general: You can take it on a superficial level and just go with the freaky pictures, or you can look deeper and see some very interesting snapshots of what makes Andy tick.
The Music
Save the Baby is the perfect segue into The Singles - Season 3, since it came from the same songwriting session as the Season 2 tracks Touch the Ground and Introspekt. Born out of a rambling, loose funk jam, we cut away all the needless Allman Brothers-type noodling and were left with this. What exactly we were left with is....well....I guess the best way to describe it is: Tower of Power hooks up with William S. Burroughs at a convention for Pentecostal snake-handlers...there was probably an ether binge involved somewhere, too....
lyrics
If you see me
with a smile on my face
like I finally solved
the mystery of the world
or perpetrated its greatest crime
blood on my hands
up to my waist in the devil's seed
Then wake me
put my feet upon the floor
wash my face and hands
drain the blood and put a mark on your door
so things don't get
to be like they were before
If you see me
with my face to the sky
shiny metal tubes
connect the stars to my eyes
Tiny silver firemen sliding down the poles
busting down the door to my skull
Save the baby
and put the fire out
