This week's Kicksville release is an educational song, teaching the listener about the importance of eating a good breakfast. Ghost toast and hell jelly: What could be more nourishing AND terrifying?
Frankly, even the song's primary lyricist, Andy Ewen, admits he is not entirely sure what he was getting at. It could be some kind of statement about the war machine, or possibly some lingering childhood fear of Pop Tarts emanating from his subconscious. Nobody is sure.
Kicksville would, however, like to advise that you don't take the song literally - please don't go looking for grenades inside the rotisserie chickens at your local food emporium.
So just sit back, open up your ears and spirit to Andy's and Kicksville's nightmarish imagination, and remember: You are what you eat....
lyrics
When I got home last night
there was a bullet in my bed
When I got home last night
there was a bullet in my bed
I sucked it up from the sheets
and it lodged inside my head
In the morning when I woke up,
this is what I said:
What's for breakfast kids?
Ghost toast and hell jelly,
courtesy of the Air Brigade
And when I woke up, like rising from the dead
I found the bullet had burrowed deep inside my head
I got my red gloves, I got my bullets
I got my hand grenades - the Air Brigade is on my side
What's for breakfast kids?
Ghost toast and hell jelly
Courtesy of the Air Brigade
Put on your red gloves mama
Reach on up in that chicken
That's where they store the hand grenades
When I got home last night
there was a bullet in my bed
I sucked it up from the sheets
and it lodged inside my head
In the morning when I woke up,
this is what I said:
A lovely breakfast starts off with agent orange,
ghost toast and cinna-bombs, hell jelly on the side
